ANTHRAX: New Photos From The Studio
User Rating: / 1
Friday, 05 December 2008

ANTHRAX entered a Chicago studio on November 4 to begin recording its new album, tentatively titled "Worship Music", for a May 2009 release via Nuclear Blast Records (in Europe). Check out new photos of the band's bassist, Frank Bello, from the studio at this location.

ANTHRAX is laying down 13 new original songs and at least four covers, including "Brain Of J" (PEARL JAM), "Big Eyes" (CHEAP TRICK), "New Noise" (THE REFUSED), and "Running Down A Dream" (TOM PETTY). Drummer Charlie Benante wrote in a recent online posting, "The new tunes are very strong. We have some old-school thrash and some stuff that is like 'We've Come For You All' meets 'Sound Of White Noise'. This record is not forced — it is a very organic and honest representation of where we are as a band and as writers. I hear many things nowadays that sound forced, [and] I ain't digging that. There is a six-minute tune called 'Down Goes The Sun', I believe it is one of my favorite songs. The music itself is epic, it sends chills up my spine. 'Face with No Name', 'The Devil You Know', 'Earth On Hell' — all killer."

ANTHRAX's new CD is being produced by the group's guitarist Rob Caggiano (CRADLE OF FILTH, BLEEDING THROUGH, CHTHONIC, SAHG) and will be tracked at various facilities in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York. The album will be mixed in early 2009 by Joe Barresi, who has previously worked with TOOL, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE and SATYRICON, among many others.

Video footage of ANTHRAX performing a brand new song called "Fight 'Em Til You Can't" on May 28, 2008 at Double Door in Chicago, Illinois can be viewed below (clip filmed and uploaded by Thraxx a.k.a. Ted). The Chicago concert was the group's first with singer Dan Nelson, who officially joined ANTHRAX in December 2007 as the replacement for Joey Belladonna.

SLIPKNOT Honored In TOTAL GUITAR Reader Awards
User Rating: / 0
Friday, 05 December 2008
SLIPKNOT was honored in the UK-based magazine Total Guitar "reader awards" for the year 2008. The Iowa-based nine-piece won "Solo of the Year" and "Best Video" for "Psychosocial". Jim Root's signature Telecaster also took home the "Hottest Guitar" award.

SLIPKNOT has garnered another Grammy nomination — this time for "Psychosocial", the first single from the band's latest album "All Hope Is Gone", released in August 2008. The song is nominated for "Best Metal Performance".

SLIPKNOT's forthcoming U.S. tour with TRIVIUM and COHEED AND CAMBRIA, which kicks off on January 23 in St. Paul, MN, will hit 33 cities across the country, and include an historic stop at New York's Madison Square Garden, a first for SLIPKNOT.

Frontman Corey Taylor said of the trek, "2009 is the 10-year anniversary of the world's first taste of this band. To celebrate we are coming back out with a killer tour, a couple great bands and the same ferocity with which we attack life. We want all of our maggots to come and celebrate with us, because if it wasn't for you we wouldn't have been here for 10 years. Get ready for chaos!"

A special iTunes pre-sale started on December 3 and is open to those who took part in the band's digital album presale earlier this year. Internet pre-sales via Ticketmaster will commence on December 5, and the majority of dates will go on sale December 6.

SLIPKNOT is currently playing to sold-out arenas on the other side of the globe; including stops in Russia, Japan, Australia, Europe and wrapping in the United Kingdom with three sold-out nights at London's Hammersmith Apollo. Preceding "All Hope Is Gone"'s #1 debut, the band held the headline slot on this summer's sold-out inaugural Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival, which drew the biggest crowds to a metal festival since SLIPKNOT played Ozzfest in 2004.
